The Eastchester Public Library will be presenting a new creative writing workshop for adults, beginning in October. On four consecutive Saturdays, October 17, 24, 31 and November 7, 1 to 3 p.m. Janine DeFilippo will suggest ways to get started writing and ways to find time in everyday life for writing.
They don't call Westchester "Cheever Country" for nothing. Many of our neigbors are budding or accomplished authors and there is a literary journal to showcase their short stories and poetry. The Westchester Review is published annually and hosts local prose and poetry reading events. The Warner Library is pleased to host a reading event this fall.

Performer Adam Michael Rothberg has toured with Joan Baez, produced Dar Williams and performed with the best of the local folk scene. The Mount Vernon Public Library Film Noir Series continues with the 1950 Hitchcock classic about a struggling actress who tries to help a friend prove his innocence when he's accused of murdering the husband of a high society entertainer. With Jane Wyman, Marlene Dietrich and Michael Wilding.
3:00 PM: The Golden Bird, a classic from the Brothers Grimm, is a wondrous tale of trust, treachery, hope and despair. Goodness prevails when the hero learns to see beyond appearances. This magical presentation makes use of masks and movement to create a unique and profound drama, with original harp music.
2:00-2:45 PM: Acting and Story Exploration Workshops
This two-part look into the Salem Witchcraft Trials will be led by Russell J. Ippolito, a full-professor at Westchester Community College. Registration is required. This lecture series is based on the actual transcript of the Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692. which is available on the library website www.lewisborolibrary.org. Join authors, Gail Farrelly and Liz Zelvin, as they discuss The Gift of Murder at the Eastchester Public Library on Monday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m. The Gift of Murder is the fourth in a series of holiday crime anthologies released to benefit Toys for Tots. Ancient Egypt and Modern Archaeology: Excavations at Mendes in the Nile Delta
Mendes, once the capital of Egypt, has a history spanning several thousand years from before the first Egyptian pharaohs to the last of the Roman emperors. Billy Morin is a permnent senior staff member of the Penn State University's Egyptian expedition team at Mendes and will present details of recent discoveries.
Morin is a PhD student in Egyptian archaeology at Leiden University in The Netherlands. He has a BA from NYU and a MPhil in archaeology from Cambridge University. He has been on the executive board of the NY chapters of the Archaeological Institute of America and the American Research Center in Egypt.
